As Africa continues to assert its place in the evolving global order, the need for an inclusive and African-centered perspective on international governance has never been more urgent. Recognizing this, Nexus International University (NIU) has launched the African Centre for Transnational and Global Governance (ACTaGG). A pioneering research and policy hub committed to amplifying Africa’s voice in global decision-making processes.
A Vision for Africa’s Place in the Global Arena
ACTaGG emerges from the understanding that the global governance landscape — from climate action and digital transformation to economic reform — is deeply intertwined with Africa’s future. The Centre’s vision is clear: to make Africa not just a participant, but a shaper of the global governance agenda.
Through rigorous research, policy dialogue, and training, ACTaGG seeks to empower African leaders, scholars, and practitioners with the tools and knowledge to influence international policy frameworks effectively.
A Multi-Dimensional Mission
ACTaGG’s mission is built on three foundational pillars:
- Research Excellence: Producing cutting-edge, Africa-centered research on key global governance themes such as economic equity, technology, peace and security, and climate justice.
- Capacity Building: Offering short courses, executive training, and leadership programmes designed to enhance the skills of policymakers, diplomats, and young professionals.
- Policy Dialogue: Creating platforms for governments, academia, civil society, and the private sector to engage in evidence-based discussions that inform actionable policy solutions.
Key Thematic Areas of Focus
ACTaGG’s research and engagement revolve around four critical thematic pillars:
- Global Economic Governance & Finance – Exploring Africa’s integration into global trade, finance, and innovation systems.
- Energy, Climate & Environmental Governance – Addressing Africa’s role in the global green transition and sustainable resource management.
- Digital & Data Governance – Empowering Africa to lead conversations on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital policy.
- Regional Integration & Peacebuilding – Strengthening cross-border cooperation for sustainable peace and development.
These themes reflect the Centre’s holistic approach to governance, recognizing that Africa’s challenges and opportunities are both transnational and interconnected.
Empowering African Scholars and Practitioners
ACTaGG’s training and research programmes are designed to nurture the next generation of African thinkers, policymakers, and global governance experts. Through mentorship, research fellowships, and academic collaboration, the Centre provides a platform for thought leadership rooted in African realities but aligned with global best practices.
In addition, ACTaGG will regularly publish policy briefs, reports, and academic papers to influence ongoing debates within international institutions, including the African Union, the United Nations, and the World Bank.
Partnerships for Impact
The Centre works collaboratively with regional bodies, international organizations, and academic institutions across Africa and beyond. These partnerships are central to ACTaGG’s mission; bridging research, policy, and practice for tangible outcomes that advance Africa’s interests on the global stage.
A Call to Engage
As global challenges become increasingly complex. From climate crises to digital governance, Africa must lead with knowledge, vision, and unity. The African Centre for Transnational and Global Governance (ACTaGG) invites researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners to engage, collaborate, and contribute to a more equitable and representative global system.
